Speaker 1:

We them broke boys from the hood. We on them, missions understood, won't catch us lacking. We that good, we always winning, like we should. We flying high, we butterfly Up to the sky. No way you catching us. Goodbye. We, the guy, we make it out alive.

Speaker 3:

Hey Dev Nick. Tessie from Fake Mango told me you know Nick.

Speaker 2:

Tessie, we make it out alive. I went to fucking second grade with that guy.

Speaker 3:

You're lying.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I know Straight up.

Speaker 3:

That is amazing.

Speaker 2:

He's been doing the artist shit for a minute bro he's been playing guitar since we were in second grade. That's insane. He did that, and then I did sports and then we kind of went off in our own directions. Now we're meeting back up again. Right Now he's on the show.

Speaker 3:

Amazing, amazing. Yeah, you guys both like come up after all this time and seeing the positions that you guys have been in, oh, absolutely like that's crazy.

Speaker 2:

It's a crazy story, man, it's nuts yeah, that's fucking insane.

Speaker 1:

Well, welcome back to another episode of the broke boys. I'm martin and today I got one of the most incredible specials that I'm gonna be doing on the podcast. So a huge shout out to keece and to devin. So we're gonna be doing a dog day special on the platform. So, for those of you guys that don't know, I reached out to a few of the artists that are performing for this festival and we're going to be doing as much interviews and a quick spam to promote your show. So this is going to be the kickstarter for sure. So, thank you and go ahead and introduce yourself to the people that are listening and to the fans who you are and what you do.

Speaker 2:

I'm Devin the Dog Days guy Absolutely.

Speaker 4:

Let's get it, that's right.

Speaker 2:

Shit is not easy, bro A pilot, but we're doing it.

Speaker 4:

Thank you, Dev, for having us. Thank you for trusting in the community in such a short amount of time, giving us the access and privilege to be able to do this.

Speaker 2:

Thanks for letting me be on your guys' podcast, I feel like, yeah, it's big.

Speaker 4:

This is like solidification. I feel like. This is the biggest one.

Speaker 2:

For real, no way. It's going to be big. We're going to tell you bro.

Speaker 4:

So what do you guys want to know?

Speaker 3:

We're going to let them moderate. So I mean first things first. I mean what made you want to get into Dog Days? I mean what was the number one cue? That was, like you know what, let me throw like a huge event like Dog Days.

Speaker 2:

So I mean, I've been throwing house parties, running 18 plus nightclubs 18 plus back when it was, you know, 18 plus hookah lounges. I was doing that at Gay Lubs. I was running the 18 plus nightclub at Encore and then, in 2013, my pops bought a spot and so he called it HTK back in 2013. And I was working there and then after about a couple years, I went away to college, came back and then we grew the nightclub scene from 2020 to now. I'm kind of doing my own thing right now, where I'm focusing just on music festivals. So this isn't my first go-around been, you know, in the background watching and waiting for a very long time. So, um, I know a lot of people in the scene that I've done concerts, festivals and, you know, running nightlife dog days is the fusion of all that basically so this isn't like an overnight thing where I'm like hey, let's go throw a fucking music festival and spend a bunch of money.

Speaker 2:

No, this, this is calculated, this is a lot of years in the making. It's been like 16 years in the making, jeez.

Speaker 3:

What.

Speaker 2:

I've been obsessing about for 16 years and it's finally happening.

Speaker 1:

Wow, congratulations for making it happen.

Speaker 2:

It's not done yet. We still got work to do All right, all, right all right.

Speaker 4:

But it will happen, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2:

Describe Dog Days what this is it's a music festival. It's not a music festival for dogs. Please don't bring the dog. It's not that kind of thing. Maybe one day we can start like a dog walking club. But dog days is a music festival. In fresno, california, at chukchansi park in downtown. There's three stages. You have the dog day stage, the hyphy stage and the casamigo stage.

Speaker 2:

There's a little flavor for everybody, right, and tickets are only 50 bucks, and so it's also very affordable for everybody right you know, usually when you see a lineup like this, it's like two, three thousand, two thousand dollars, like yeah, it's, it's crazy pricing.

Speaker 2:

So I'm trying to do this shit in fresno, california in the center of california to where, if you're coming from the bay or la, it's just a couple hours, you know, versus you driving from the bay to you know across the state or vice versa. Right, and so this being in central california, it's accessible, obviously, to people in fresno. But you know, if you want to travel for this shit, come travel. Come to fresno, see what it's like.

Speaker 1:

It's lit yeah, it's lit as fuck.

Speaker 4:

That's what's that? What's the biggest pushback of trying to put on something this big?

Speaker 2:

honestly, um, not a lot of pushback. Everyone kind of wants to get involved into it, like everyone wants to be a part of this, everybody, and it feels good to have everyone's support. Um, it's just impossible. Tasks like locking in the chain smokers was fucking impossible. Coming up with the money was fucking impossible we're doing it and we did it.

Speaker 2:

And then also operating a music festival. You know, that's the next thing, which that's my specialty. I did, uh, five stages at the Save Mart Center. Everything ran flawlessly right, everyone was on time, nobody canceled. It's like 40, 50 DJs. Everything went according to plan. This time we have a lot more shit going on as far as artists. There's more state, there's less stages, but bigger stages right, right, doing more with less, and it's a lot bigger names than the first time I did this. So Dog Days right right, doing more with less, um, and it's a lot bigger names than the first time I did this. So dog days at the save march center was on may 2nd. This is dog days at chancy park on saturday, september 6th, from 5 pm to 1, and there's a flavor for everybody, and so I really want to see the whole community pop out on this one, right absolutely I don't believe it'll fail.

Speaker 3:

Trust me, fresno's one of the biggest little cities out there and you chose, chose the right spot to do it.

Speaker 2:

It's got potential bro.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. I believe in it and I'm not going to stop until it's popping.

Speaker 2:

That's right Not just with music, but just everything in general. Man, I really believe in the city and I believe in the people. The dude that was just in here, the comedian bro. Isaiah dude, he's fucking funny. I watched him transition. So, bro, he's fucking hilarious and he does a good thing while he's you know, talking funny shit. Yeah, he's highlighting the city, he's highlighting businesses, and it's funny and it makes you want to keep watching.

Speaker 4:

It's like that's the shit I'm trying to be on, but with music festivals I want to highlight the town. So tell us about you know your experience growing up in fresno. It's a little I mean, yeah, yeah it was rough.

Speaker 2:

You know Parents had me when they were teenagers. You know I was a kid when they were in and out of jail, prison fucking. You know rehabs. So all the way up until I was like 17, 18, like it was rough.

Speaker 2:

It's still rough right now but it wasn't as bad as then and so it wasn't an easy upbringing. We're on, you know, section 8 housing. I was living at apartment to apartment, bouncing up and down all around town from the west side to clovis, back to the west side, and just every every year is at a new school, right, right and I that's kind of what got me started in.

Speaker 2:

the partying is like I just knew everybody because I went to so many fucking schools because we moved so much and so growing up in fresno was tough bro, and I always had this dream to kind of like make it pop. I've always wanted to do big shit and you know, I've done shows and I've done this and I've done that, but nothing as big as the Chainsmokers coming to Fresno, california.

Speaker 4:

They've never been here. If you don't come for nothing else, you got to come for that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's going to be epic.

Speaker 4:

They did the Super Bowl for the past three years.

Speaker 1:

No way, I don't know if you knew that.

Speaker 4:

No, yeah, that's lit Like pre-game show we're bringing that shit to Fresno, bro.

Speaker 2:

Come on, man, it's going to be dope.

Speaker 4:

People are going to be coming from Nevada, the Bay, LA you feel me All the little cities in between.

Speaker 2:

I like that. You can't imagine how many people are going to really be here Tickets are flying by the way bro, Tickets are flying right now. I believe it, bro Better get yours before it's too late, because you do not want to see the after movie and not be a part of this shit. It's going to be dope, trust me.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, we definitely in this thing. Yeah, it's a lot to digest and I know you busy. I get to see just meeting you in a short amount of time, seeing what you do.

Speaker 2:

Tell, do tell us some other things that you do here in the city, like some other, uh, business ventures. I have a. I have a bar with a partner, eric, and it's called need new r. It's right here in downtown and so we're open tuesday through sunday. It's like a craft cocktail lounge meets a coffee shop. It's very approachable, it's cute, it's fun, it's something new for downtown, it's something new for fresno. Um, but being downtown is hard, man. Being downtown is what make it hard. It's just there's on a tuesday night, it's just us our lights are not.

Speaker 2:

Even the street lights are on bro right right to the, to the road, and so if you pull up, it's just need noir signs lighting up this dark pit and it's it's not approachable.

Speaker 4:

You want more people to come. I love.

Speaker 2:

I would love to get more people to move in next to us to have Broadway active, like the fact that we're on Broadway Street for Nuit Noire and it's just us. You know it's not easy.

Speaker 1:

As a business owner.

Speaker 2:

it's very challenging, but we're making it work, and if we can make it work in downtown Fresno, we can make it work anywhere.

Speaker 1:

Trust me. What's the biggest challenge that you have faced when starting businesses?

Speaker 2:

Doubting myself, probably like I would say you know, between doubt and fear on in your own mind is like the biggest challenge once you get past once you get past that.

Speaker 2:

It's all that anything, anything you fucking want to do right straight up, and so that's the most challenging thing. Money comes, it goes. Um, I'm well connected. I know a lot of people, I know what to do, but some people just don't do it because they're scared or because they doubt themselves or this and that. But it's like no. If I could do this shit from coming from where I came from, bro, if you were to see my upbringing.

Speaker 4:

Fresno, you'd be like. This guy should be dead by now. Right, he's from. Yeah, yeah, we're in Fresno, bro.

Speaker 2:

So we're doing this shit in Fresno and so I'm homegrown, I'm not leaving anytime soon. I plan to keep doing what I'm doing and consistently bringing stuff to downtown, to Fresno in general. But yeah, man, don't doubt yourself.

Speaker 4:

I haven't felt this optimistic about the city in a long time.

Speaker 2:

Really Hell no bro.

Speaker 4:

I mean as far as now this platform they know who I am because I've been featured on a few episodes and kind of keep regurgitating that same information.

Speaker 2:

I like what you do, bro. I like what you do though.

Speaker 4:

Appreciate you and me and my cousin. We have implemented a lot of the transition and the growth in the art community, especially in the urban side of things. You know what I mean With film, music, shows or just bringing other entities here. And I feel like after TNO it was just, it's been a dry spell. It's been like it just hasn't really been this type of fire like lit, like where everybody's excited the fact that Isaiah was in here. He was there, he shot the first.

Speaker 2:

TNO video. I didn't know, you guys even knew each other. He just pulled up. Well, I invited him out here and I was like, hey, follow me, I gotta open the door for some people, and then you guys, so for him to be there at that time and then now to see this.

Speaker 4:

Obviously, in the same time, I'm sure he he's aware of that feeling and it being you and it could have been anybody, but the fact that it's you and I'm talking to you I can tell you that I haven't felt this optimistic I really appreciate that I love that just getting behind something and being proud I'm tired of waiting.

Speaker 2:

Come on, somebody else can do it bro like I I'm just so sick of like oh, hopefully city does this, hopefully this person does that, hopefully these laws. It's like fuck it, just do it yourself.

Speaker 4:

Yes, I'm so tired of waiting. Yeah, that's why I'm behind it. I like shit. I just want to help if it's something that you you're helping right now, so thank you bro, it's a, it's a, it's a pleasure, it's a privilege. I'll let these guys ask some more questions.

Speaker 3:

Uh, one of the biggest questions I was going to ask you was so you said in your earlier stages you threw like a lot of house parties, a lot of different events. Did you ever have one that just never worked out? Like you, you thought it was going to be a big one all of them really no, I've had some.

Speaker 2:

I've had some house parties go bad. Like a lot of house parties go bad. I've had some other parties go bad. I've had some concerts go bad. I have nights at the nightclub go bad. It's just part of the business, man. Shit goes bad, shit goes good. It's just up and down.

Speaker 2:

You know, you just got to stay in the middle, you just got to keep a leveled head and not get down yourself right this shit's not easy yeah, one thousand percent especially with dealing with this, these kind of artists, and this much risk and this much money, is really not easy. You got to be, you gotta have thick skin, you gotta be ready to go you can't collapse under pressure right

Speaker 1:

and so you know things have gone bad before, but you bounce back absolutely, yeah, absolutely, and you sense the drive that you got you sent like. I can sense the aura that you're like I'm not begging them.

Speaker 2:

Oh fuck I I can't if we go toe to toe, I will win.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, and that's the mentality that you're gonna have I'm sorry anybody, I will fucking win.

Speaker 2:

Yes I will, I will rip your head off.

Speaker 1:

I'm sorry, I love you. I don't know you, but I will win at all costs.

Speaker 2:

And so that's how I feel with business. You know like this shit's happening. I'm going to make it happen. There's nothing stopping me.

Speaker 4:

Try. When did you know you was a businessman?

Speaker 2:

Dude, I was fucking hustling licorice when I was like my brother on the back of a fucking tricycle in Sin City by Fresno State those halfway houses San Bruno over there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, exactly. And so I was just day one hustler, bro, and then, watching my dad grow up, he's been a promoter his whole life. He was a rapper back in the day, and then he started his business from nothing and has failed and then started over, failed, started over, and now he finally has something that's worth something. And so shout out to my pops, okay, shout out to my family, shout out to you know, all the people that have mentored me, whether it's a coach, a teacher, and then all the homies that believe in me right now anyone that shot me a couple thousand bucks to make this shit happen.

Speaker 2:

You know all of fresno really has put on for fresno it feels fucking good. Good, this isn't all me. This is me calling 2,000, 5,000 people in Fresno to make this shit pop, and we're making it pop. I don't have some big investor, I don't have a bunch of money, I don't come from money, and so, yeah, this shit's happening, man.

Speaker 4:

Fresno's making it happen. If you could change one thing about Fresno, what would it be?

Speaker 2:

For everyone just to work together and to stop. Like you know, I want peace. I want peace in the streets. I want peace at schools. I want peace in the city Like I want peace, bro. If I could change anything, it's people pointing fingers at each other, right, it's just like A lot of negativity out here A lot of negativity, but I need more positivity.

Speaker 4:

I it's just a lot of negativity, a lot of negativity, but I need more positivity.

Speaker 2:

I need more yes, we can, Instead of saying you know, I don't want people pointing fingers at anybody, I want them to point the finger at themselves. You know more than anything Facts. Accountability is big. If we all work together, we could do some cool shit Right.

Speaker 2:

And so everyone that is having opposing businesses that says, you know, fuck this guy, fuck that guy Right, fuck this guy fuck that guy, whether you know any field, bro, it's just like if we all came together in Fresno or in the world in general, we could do a lot of shit. There's all these borders and blurred lines. It's just like you know. That's what I would change more than anything is just to everyone just collaborate instead of being enemies.

Speaker 3:

Right, right, you know, I would also take the ego out of Fresno if I could do that.

Speaker 1:

Man, the ego out of Fresno. If people, if I could do that man right, that's big that's big.

Speaker 2:

If people just stopped having a fucking ego and was all about me, me, me, me, and changed that to us, us, us, us, we could do a lot. Understand, you know, like this isn't me, I'm taking the risk. I'm putting my name on the dotted line. If shit goes wrong, right, when everyone's, when, when the music's over, I'm the one dealing with the bullshit afterwards. I'm the one accountable, right? But I'm willing to take that risk, I'm willing to be accountable. But there's a lot of people putting their cards in this, a lot of people putting, like, their heart and soul into this. It's not just me. But yeah, man, I think after this there's a lot more potential for fresno. There's a lot more things I want to do, not just with music, but with the city in general. Man, I want to paint the town, I want to where do, but with the city in general. Man, I want to paint the town.

Speaker 4:

I want to add some-. Where do you?

Speaker 2:

see the city in five years. Do you know what Fuck? What's that city, bro? It's so futuristic. Oh fuck, I'm dropping the ball on this one. What's it called? Where is that? In the south or east coast?

Speaker 4:

It's like all greenery bro.

Speaker 2:

It's beautiful, it? They're on some shit. Bro. I want to be on some Singapore shit for Fresno, because they literally cool down the city with having all their greenery all around these buildings. We're in a concrete jungle. We can cool this bitch down. It's hot as fucking Fresno bro, I literally want to cool the city down and change the way it looks, because you look at it right now, you can kind of see it. It's just clean. I want to add some fucking plants, bro. I want to build a garden.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, we're the agriculture capital. It don't make sense why we couldn't Exactly Three-fourths of the earth population.

Speaker 2:

But look at what Singapore's doing. I just want to copy and paste that idea over to Fresno.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

Give it some flavor, give it some life, give it some cool it down a little bit. It's way too fucking hot, right, I really want to change the literal city you ever thought about being a pastor.

Speaker 1:

Oh man, because you got us fired up.

Speaker 2:

Maybe, maybe at the end I'll do that at the end of my life, but I have a lot of life in me, I have a lot of fire, I have a lot of energy and I could still work for the next 20 years straight, every fucking day.

Speaker 4:

So I want to put my heart and soul into everything. What's your biggest motivation right now?

Speaker 2:

Your personal motivation, probably making sure my family's good. We didn't come from shit. We still don't have shit, especially my mom's side of the family. It's hard. I got seven siblings, and most of them are on my mom's side and their dad's not around, and so it's like I'm the oldest of all these siblings I have. That's crazy. And so they're not good right now. I'm not good right now. I'm not gonna stop until they're good I'm not gonna stop until they're all through college.

Speaker 2:

I'm not gonna stop until they're all taken care of. That's my biggest motivation. That and my fucking girlfriend. Okay and god my girl bro. Hey, I'm never leaving this one, bro. She is fucking down with it. Shout out to you yeah, for sure You're creating a man right here. She has held it down and it's like I could walk through the fire. I could handle all this shit. I don't know many people that can, but she's doing it with me and I couldn't be doing this without her straight up, come on.

Speaker 4:

They say a man who has a woman is 75% more successful Dude Than somebody who don't have it.

Speaker 2:

I'm 100% more successful. I agree. However you look at it, she's the other half of me.

Speaker 4:

Come on, that's dope. Yeah, we went to the club the other night. We had them drinks. I forgot what I had. I had the At a Nuit Noir, yeah, and that shit was fire. That was my girl bro. She created the menu and it was mocktails. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

I don't drink, I don't party, and so we have a major mocktail menu for those that don't drink, because I respect people that hold it down right.

Speaker 4:

Variety rules yeah, straight up, Straight up. Now they're delicious. Y'all make sure y'all head over to Neat Noir. It's over there on Broadway.

Speaker 2:

There's a pizza place next door South of Shaw is the best pizza in town, bro, it's so good Y'all agree.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, we just came from there.

Speaker 3:

Oh, you did Nice the cheese pool on that pizza.

Speaker 4:

Shout out to Cheeks too. Shout out to Cheeks.

Speaker 3:

He's always showing love man.

Speaker 4:

He said the cheese pool, the cheese pool bro.

Speaker 3:

Like something out of that's funny. So one question that I did have, and you kind of already answered it, but do you have a specific person that is your biggest inspiration for everything that you do right now?

Speaker 2:

single person single person no, I would break it up over. You know one, my dad. Two, uh, would probably be steve thatcher, who runs boots in the park and and I was blessed to be in the background of that whole operation, watching what he's been doing through the past it's been like 15 years since I've known the guy. So, watching what he's done with Boots in the Park, watching how he's grown it strategically, I'm getting a lot of stuff from that. I'm also studying anyone that's at the top of their game in the industry. So I'm studying Jason Strass with Tao Group. I'm studying Noah Teppenberg, which is his partner. I'm studying Dave Grutman, which owns Groot Hospitality, and these are some of the guys that are at the top of their game in Vegas, miami and beyond. They're global right and so we're getting all the papers they published 10, 15 years ago. I'm seeing the way Jason Strass got people from colleges to his spots by transportation and so he got the buses to pull up. I'm doing the same fucking thing.

Speaker 2:

And so I have a collective group of people that I always pull from. It's not just one person, but all the people that are either doing it big locally or that are doing it big globally. I'm taking notes.

Speaker 3:

Right, it's the best way to do it.

Speaker 4:

What is Devin Everick doing when he's not marketing?

Speaker 2:

I'm running shit bro.

Speaker 4:

I mean like when you're down time, what you doing, there's no fucking downtime.

Speaker 1:

I don't need that you don't ever stop and take a break.

Speaker 2:

I'm literally doing a photo shoot right now. You can probably see it. I'm doing two photo shoots right now for the country concert on Friday. That's not Dog Days, I'm doing fucking. I just had a podcast right before you guys got here. I got two more interviews after this.

Speaker 4:

Okay, so like-. I got sponsorships locked in right after that when you're not in the marketing season, like holiday season or just like I haven't taken a break in like nine, 10 years bro. What Y'all hear, this Jesus. It makes sense why he's on this level.

Speaker 2:

It makes sense I haven't stopped, and when I stop, I feel weird. When I do take a vacation for a day or two, I feel fucking off. What do you want to do when you have your time off? Sleep, I just like. Honestly, when I traveled to Tulum about a year and a half ago, I was there for like two days. That's all the time I could get. I don't know. I like taking ideas from really cool places and bringing them back to Fresno.

Speaker 2:

So as I'm chilling, I'm still kind of working Damn right, but I like watching TED Talks, I like looking on podcasts and watching what forward thinkers are doing. I went to school in Silicon Valley and I studied innovation and met some of the biggest movers and shakers in the game, and so I'm taking all this knowledge and I'm bringing it back to Fresno. I understand takers in the game, and so I'm taking all this knowledge and I'm bringing it back to fresno. That's what I do in my off time. Got you? I don't know if you consider that off time, but yeah, I mean you made it clear you've been working for 10 years, so that's why you?

Speaker 4:

couldn't just luckily get in this position chain smoker, oh yeah it's getting.

Speaker 2:

I'm getting attention now, but like yeah, summer ray me and dior, yeah, that was hard how was that process to even get these artists?

Speaker 2:

a lot of pacing on the phone, a lot of calling, a lot of hustling, a lot of, you know, contacting 20 different people for one artist. It's not easy. Um, you know, bringing big names to fresno, one and then two. If you are bringing the big names and like you're in the conversation, they're like what have you done before? And so the first event I did at the Save Mart Center that was considered a big event, right, it's at the fucking Save Mart Center. That was kind of my resume, like hey, I pulled this off five stages, no issues, everyone got paid, everyone's cool. I did it. That was kind of like the beginning of what I want to do. And this is like a 10-year business plan. And so now that I have that one in the books, look at the production, look at the artists.

Speaker 2:

Talk to the agencies. I took great care of everybody. Everybody was paid on time and so getting this was. It's the next part of my evolution of what I want to do in Fresno. And so now that I have a big name, like the Chainsmokers, coming to Fresno the next time I do this. This is my resume. Yes.

Speaker 4:

And the numbers. Beyonce, get ready, Beyonce yeah, straight up.

Speaker 2:

Why not why?

Speaker 1:

not On your way.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. And the next question is when do you think your next event would be after Dog Days?

Speaker 2:

The next day. Yeah, there's something called galactic gardens on sunday. Giddy up and groove is the country concert on friday right and then art hop in chichancey park is on that thursday, so I have back to back, to back to back events so thursday, friday, saturday and sunday all separate events four, fifth, six and a seven yep all separate events, all separate vibes.

Speaker 2:

Art hop is completely free. You you just got to RSVP online. Giddy Up and Groove is only $25 for a country concert at Chansey Park. Saturday is Dog Day. It's only $50 for three stages. And then Galactic Garden is going to be two stages and that's going to be lit as fuck. Crank that is dope as hell. He was just at Art Summer, crushed it, bro. That's dope, and there's a lot of talent coming that weekend and I'm going to be stressed the fuck out.

Speaker 4:

I got your back, bro. I need some help, please. You already know I got your back. We've been chilling all week.

Speaker 2:

You're going to see me in work mode, bro. It's going to be crazy.

Speaker 4:

If you could leave one thing with the viewers man, what would you say, bro?

Speaker 2:

Don't doubt yourself.

Speaker 4:

You could fucking do it, Whatever it is you could do it, bro, like straight up, like I think that would be it don't doubt yourself, fear god nobody else, come on. You know, respect it how y'all feel I'm blown away.

Speaker 1:

We gotta go y'all, we gotta sit the duke. No, this is, this is amazing man. I love the energy, I love that man. You, you are doing such big things and and you are the reason of this whole thing is possible.

Speaker 2:

I'm not the reason. People at Fresno are the reason.

Speaker 1:

Okay, they're the ones that put in on this.

Speaker 2:

They all threw in on this. They all helped me out and beyond. This isn't me, man, no-transcript, it's thousands of people in this show.

Speaker 4:

Did y'all ever expect to like be sitting on a panel with somebody like this?

Speaker 3:

absolutely not. I mean absolutely not. I mean later on down the road don't talk to me like that, bro.

Speaker 4:

No, you, let's be real, let's be real, let's be real.

Speaker 1:

I'm just a kid from fucking Fresno bro.

Speaker 3:

I'm just a kid from Fresno, and I think that's the biggest thing too is the fact that, as a business owner and as a person of stature, I would say, the fact that you're not afraid to get rid of that ego. You're transparent, you're not afraid to let the audience know and be like hey man, chase your dreams. Don know and be like hey man, chase your dreams. Yeah, don't be afraid to go out there and chase your goals and make something big happen yeah coming from fresno as well.

Speaker 2:

Let's collaborate, let's work together. My doors are open, my arms are are open wide, like come in on this and let's. Let's build some shit right, you know exactly, I want to figure out the problems in fresno and then go beyond that eventually. You know, I'm if I, if I could do what I'm doing in Fresno, I could do it anywhere. Word Straight up it's one of the hardest competency levels that I've ever experienced.

Speaker 4:

I lived in Seattle. I went to school in San Francisco, my mom and my dad from LA. I just came from Dallas. For 15 years I lived in Atlanta and everything I learned here is so much more valuable, right? Because we have to compete at such a high level against each other here and over there. They have more resources. Everybody got more resources than Fresno. We don't use them.

Speaker 2:

Fresno's overlooked bro.

Speaker 4:

So when we go other places, like he said, if you can do it here, as soon as you get there they already can identify with you Like quick bro, it don't take long to start moving up. But here it's like watch out, you crab in a barrel type situation. So I agree with you on that wholeheartedly. Yeah, I just hope y'all can relate to this.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 4:

For the most part.

Speaker 1:

And for everybody that's listening, I hope they relate to it as well. For sure, for sure.

Speaker 4:

Yeah for sure. Just be able to relate like, like you said, fear god, don't doubt yourself, and just have a plan you feel me and execute that whole.

Speaker 2:

Get off the couch exactly life is passing you by you're still sitting there. Yeah, I mean, education is a big thing, man like I didn't just fucking do this like I've studied a lot, I learned a lot, I've done a lot, I failed a lot, right a lot, a lot, you know it's. It's not easy. This shit is not overnight. This is my entire life's work, all the education, all the people I've talked to, all the.

Speaker 1:

I've read so many fucking books I've listened to so many podcasts, read books, but also you need to act. You can't just educate yourself and then not do nothing, and not do nothing about it.

Speaker 2:

You got to actually do this shit and you know some struggle with education and some struggle with doing it Right, but you got to do both you got to know what you're doing and plan for it, and then actually do this shit and do it again, and again, and again, and again until it happens. You don't give up, amen. I love it.

Speaker 4:

Who are you most excited to see? And don't say chain smoker.

Speaker 2:

Probably my boy Salito. I haven't seen him perform yet.

Speaker 4:

Okay, who is Salito? For the people who don't know he's from Fresno, California.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

And what type of music does he make?

Speaker 2:

He does a lot. He does hip hop, r&b, latin, reggaeton. He does it all, bro, okay.

Speaker 4:

One stop shop, and what stage will he be on?

Speaker 2:

He's going to be everywhere, but primarily on the Casamigo stage.

Speaker 2:

Okay, nice For sure, yeah, salito, we ready man, but yeah man, we have dog days on Saturday, right, and then having the whole weekend is going to bring a lot of attention, and I really want to give Fresno the show they deserve and I want to give the artists the stage and the show they deserve. And so you, you know, the shit's not cheap, the shit is not free to do, and so if you believe in the vision in fresno and you believe in me, and if you believe just and what I'm doing, then buy a ticket there's no free rides I'm not giving out tickets.

Speaker 2:

I'm not hooking up any. I'm not doing hookups like this costs money businesses cost money. You know, if you believe in the vision, you want to continue to see these artists and this kind of production come to fresno consistently.

Speaker 4:

Buy a ticket, facts, don't wait last minute we definitely finna, get our tickets and also we have permission to host a live broadcast. Yeah, why not podcast from where we'll be? We'll be on the floor. Where would you want us to be?

Speaker 2:

I don't know, maybe in here.

Speaker 1:

I'd love it, man, because then you would get the whole scenery of everybody out there.

Speaker 2:

You got outside too right, this little deck.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that'd be perfect.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I'm excited. This guy barely met me and he gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. You're giving me the opportunity of a lifetime bro so, I was fortunate enough to be a part of some huge festivals. I seen Ray Schremer their first show for Schrem, Life 2.

Speaker 2:

No way.

Speaker 4:

I got pictures and everything. I was VIP.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I was media, I was media.

Speaker 4:

It should definitely bring tears to my eyes because I didn't know how it was going to translate into my future. I'm talking about Erykah Badu, andrew WK, nora Jones, ot, genesis. I can't even name all the people who was at this festival, but it was called Oak-topia and it was in North Texas. North Texas is famous for their jazz music. They're the number one Grammy-winning institution in history and they have a strong music art community, very much like Fresno. At this time, it was considered to be the same enchantment as Disneyland.

Speaker 1:

That's what people were comparing it to.

Speaker 4:

Rob Markman, wow, tj and some good people out there took me under their wing. I had my camera and I was running around filming and I was part of media and press, but I didn't have no idea on what to do and how festivals really ran and what was the experience. Over time I would go to South by Southwest and then I would go to the Inline Music Festival, then they became a film festival and I just had all this experience. So, upon meeting you and then obviously you delegating that position to me, I just want to make sure that I could share the most premier experience to the community, and not just the community, the world. So we got some dope ideas with your clearance.

Speaker 4:

We're going to make sure that this is a annual festival.

Speaker 2:

We might run this shit next month, who knows, bro, I like how you did it. I don't see why not. I don't see why not. This is the second one he's doing this year. Yeah, it might be like four more, I don't know yet. Hey, we want.

Speaker 1:

That's four more? I don't know yet. Hey, we welcome it.

Speaker 4:

It's the new Rolling Loud Like what it's dog days bro.

Speaker 2:

It's. Fresno, dog days, fresno, I really want to highlight the artists that are in Fresno. I want to highlight what Fresno has Like. We have a lot of shit that no one knows about and they overlook Fresno. So I have a big microphone right now, and so I want to be able to showcase the people of fresno and that we shouldn't be overlooked, right, you know?

Speaker 2:

we have some amazing talent, we have some amazing athletes, we have some amazing artists and some amazing people. So that's the goal of this whole operation big time I feel it.

Speaker 1:

I feel electricity, yes, sir man, who's an artist that you would love to have?

Speaker 2:

beyonce, bro down for beyonce, that'd be dope. Yeah b, what's up, what's up.

Speaker 4:

You see change walkers on the lineup. Girl don't, don't wait too late. I mean pull up, that'd be dope. Yeah, it's not, man, I don't see it not happening. A lot of people know what fresno is. It's just that there's this misconceived notion that it's nothing here. Yeah, but obviously everybody like to eat. We got the best produce.

Speaker 4:

We got the best food everybody like to smoke we got the best weed we make some of the best music, we got the best dancers, we got the best cars, car shows and, and when they come to cruising and stuff, it's really the more I feel like urban essentials that we hold and a lot of people kind of like scared to get down to earth. You know what I mean so they want their premier commercial spotlight events but when you? Come here. It's not that, it's something more urban, something I like that.

Speaker 2:

I like me too. I like it. I feel home. I feel like I'm at home.

Speaker 4:

I go other places, I don't feel like I'm at home if you like that stuff, fresno is a great place to come experience that culture. You will see it at dog days, yes, sir, and I expect all of them to see it, like obviously, p-lo and Sage and them no, they always in Fresno and they always sell out. You know what I mean, they not? It probably was a no-brainer.

Speaker 2:

SOB, same way they Now the chainsaws are pulling up. Shakira was just here, isn't?

Speaker 1:

that crazy, which is another big thing, which is why I think you're going to make such a huge impact, because Shakira came and it blew up everywhere.

Speaker 2:

It went viral, incredible.

Speaker 1:

Now you're doing it and all eyes are going to be on you and it's going to be an incredible moment. It's going to pivot you to the next level.

Speaker 2:

I want others to do the same thing I'm doing, so I have some competition.

Speaker 1:

Yes, so it breeds a better product right bring it on I want people to do more.

Speaker 2:

I don't want to. That's the thing, bro. Like I've been in the the industry for a long time and I've seen some just shady shit. It's just like why sabotage, why point fingers? Just fucking iron sharpens, iron like let's and wrestling like I don't go out and fucking try to break the fucking dude's knee let's just fucking wrestle, let's get down to it.

Speaker 2:

Let's let's go right. I want the challenge same with business, but I want the challenge I bring. I. I want competition. I want more shit to happen in fresno. I don't want to. You know, it just be me. Yeah, and that's so different because a lot of I feel like a lot of business owners want to monopolize't want to.

Speaker 3:

You know, it just be me, yeah, and that's so different because a lot of I feel like a lot of business owners want to monopolize. They want to be the only one out there so that the they don't have anyone to question their, either their motives or the income that they're bringing in.

Speaker 2:

It's strictly just them big in the in the music industry too it's yeah, I know it's yeah it's fucked yeah it's fucked and I'm trying to unfuck it.

Speaker 3:

Well said, oh Keezy, I got a question, bro, what's? Up brother, so put in the position that you're in. How stressed are you?

Speaker 4:

I don't really get stressed out bro.

Speaker 3:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

Like a lot of people. They see me and I wear hoodies On purpose, right? It's just to raise the intensity. And so when you see me Without a hoodie, that means I'm living life. I got a hoodie. That's the closest you'll see me to any level of stress. I'm actually trying to enhance it. Right, I don't get stressed out, bro. I accept it, rob.

Speaker 2:

Markman, I need to take notes from you, bro. I need to learn how to not stress. I wake up in panic. Fuck, we have music festival in two weeks. Shit Rob.

Speaker 4:

Markman, Look it's a lot of for real, though, like it's a lot of prioritizing, but also it's just like knowing what you good at right. And then another thing that is probably hard, and I've been saying this a lot lately. You know we talk. Yeah, I accepted every possible outcome that you can experience in this lifetime, good and bad. I already talked to myself.

Speaker 2:

I already talked to God about it.

Speaker 4:

So I don't feel bad about going through nothing, right On top of knowing who I am. You feel me so it's just like all right breathe, then it's just breathing.

Speaker 2:

It's just breathing. Something I want to touch on real quick Okay, go ahead, brother Is that this road was very hard to get to Like. Just in the past few months, I've been a living hell.

Speaker 3:

It's not easy.

Speaker 2:

I've cried like 25 times in the past few months Broken down, Freaked the fuck out. So much pressure and it's not easy to do shit like this right. But, I prayed for it, and I asked for it, and I got it.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

It's a lot to handle.

Speaker 4:

And I have no problem letting people know this shit is not cake, it's a mental challenge, right? Mental health and all this stuff is really real especially with you. Know the the things our generation gotta face. We gotta unfuck this shit right. All this shit are the generations before us.

Speaker 2:

They just left that shit. You go death straight up. You gotta you just gotta stop trying to flex so hard and look out for one another and and be vulnerable and let people know how you really feel.

Speaker 4:

So you just cut through the bullshit and and I'm going to relate to what he's saying. I was born right around the corner, I grew up in the middle of the city. I'm black, so I always experienced the challenge of just being ethnic and that poverty. Right, let's just call it what it is. Right. So being successful when you have an idea and then you manifest that shit even if you don't accomplish it. But when they get in front of you and you'll be like I was just thinking this shit just happened?

Speaker 4:

yes, that's where I don't, that's why I don't stress, you feel me right, that's god, yeah, so god, obviously is the, you know, the deliverer, and he's the person who gives me that peace of mind. And sometimes I do wake up with anxiety, but that shit don't last for more than 30 minutes because I got shit to do. You feel me so it ain't. I'm not trying to sound like I'm macho or nothing like that, but I come from a bad situation yeah and just to be in this panel right now.

Speaker 4:

Just let me know I'm one step closer to my dream right so why would I? Give Rob Markman. So why would I give up now? Why would I get frustrated? It's okay to cry Rob Markman, yeah, rob Markman. I get teary eyed just expressing myself right now almost twice just knowing that I'm a part of something big, but obviously it's not that emotionally overwhelming to the part where I can't consume myself or whatever.

Speaker 4:

So nah, all that shit is important. Tears, that water, you'll see, you feel me Like that's a part of it, Like breaking. You know they say pain is weakness, leaving the body. You feel me and that's one of my philosophies Like when I'm in the gym trying to push myself. I don't want to kill myself, but I'm trying to push myself Push the limits a little bit so that way, when I do get an easy, comfortable situation, it's a no-brainer, it's a breeze, you feel me.

Speaker 4:

So, like I said, hats off. Salute, bro. It's okay to be honest and transparent about this shit, because I can't imagine what you're going through there's a lot of pressure.

Speaker 2:

There's a lot of moving parts, man, there's a lot of things that can go wrong. I'm not not gonna just fucking crumble.

Speaker 4:

I gotta push through bro, and always ask for help. That's another thing we're talking about when the sprinklers came on. Yeah, we're talking about learning how to ask right. Begging is one thing, but asking is a whole right other thing exactly, it's okay to ask for help. People be like oh you begging or and also dick writing. We're talking about that. It's okay to congratulate somebody when they're doing the right thing over the top yeah, don't be over, don't, don't be.

Speaker 4:

I mean too, uh, what's it called suffocating? But obviously, yeah, give credit where credit is due that shit matter, because when people is trying to open the door for you, it's like eventually that person gonna have to pass up a time to somebody it might be you, so remember what that person went through. So that way it's not just so foreign when you get in that position.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and I'm a strong believer that anything that you go through in life prepares you for every moment right because, you know, listening to your story, listening to keece and I've seen it on my boy, dj, and dj's know my life. I went through a lot and I worked in the fields for 11 years. I'm bottom of the fucking barrel, trust me. I've worked with my hands my whole fucking life, even today. Today, I clock in at work 2 am as soon as I was done, come straight here. Wow, I have a lot of stuff and a lot of you know.

Speaker 2:

That's incredible.

Speaker 1:

You have to be driven and focus on what you want to do, and this is a passion project. This is my dream. This is something I love to do. I love it and it's and I get it when there's moments where you sit there and you're just like you know, down and depressed. I've talked about it before on the podcast. It's okay to ask for help, it's okay to be there for other people and it's okay to be vulnerable, as men we're trained to be.

Speaker 1:

Nah, you got a man up, don't fucking, don't fucking be like that, yeah, and I grew up in a very toxic household where I was just like my dad was like no, like you're a fucking man, don't fucking shed a tear right point blank period yeah, it's very unhealthy to hold it all in and act like you know. It's not what it is yeah, so I just want to say thank you for opening up and being vulnerable.

Speaker 2:

Right, that's for listening, man it's, uh, it's not easy to do that. It's not easy to open up and be vulnerable to another person, to your girlfriend, yes, to people on camera. I don't fucking know yeah, the world, but I'm I'm open to it because you're human the only, exactly, I'm human. It's. The only way forward is to cut through the bullshit, cut through the ego, cut through the lies, cut through the this and that like let's, let's help each other out.

Speaker 3:

There's not enough of that right now, right and I feel like a lot of uh, people that are trying to become something or doing something as big as what you're doing. It's very easy to bottle it up and be mr macho man in front of everybody, being macho man in front of the crowd, and be like, oh no, I got it, like I'm stressed, I'm not stressing, it's all right. And then it comes out in one of the worst ways or you hold yourself back from releasing those emotions or the mental stress and you crash out and you can't handle it and everything you work so hard for for all that time it just crumbles right underneath you. Um, so I mean, it's amazing. Having that ability is amazing. Being vulnerable is everything yeah, it is it really is.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, shout out to your girlfriend for being there, because I know, I know my girl she's, she's my rock hey my girl too women are just they undermine man.

Speaker 4:

That is real it's like we live in a culture where that changing and it's just about respect really she has to do all the I deal with, right?

Speaker 2:

she didn't ask for this shit. She's a part of it and she's still willing to go through the weeds with me. You know, it's crazy. I wouldn't do this shit. She's dope as fuck man. She's not going anywhere. I'm not giving her half of my shit, I'm giving her all of it when we get married. She deserves it all.

Speaker 3:

True commitment right there that's what they say.

Speaker 4:

That's how you know something is pure gold if it, if it gets better through the fire yep, it should burn off the impurities and make you better amen. So if you're hanging, with the fire, with you you're pure gold man, pure gold man she really is well said I like that that's sad.

Speaker 1:

Well, dj, you got any more questions that you can think of, can you see?
