Ever wondered how a weekend packed with family fun, a bit of nostalgia, and delicious food can feel like a mini-vacation? This episode is all about those magical moments when you reconnect with loved ones and create unforgettable memories. We'll start by sharing our recent adventures, from a fairy-tale trip to Disney, a tranquil family getaway in Santa Cruz, to a peaceful LA visit focused on quality time rather than tourist traps. Picture yourself savoring ice cream at an old-school stand and reliving childhood memories with Shakespeare in the Park at Griffith Park. It's a wholesome journey filled with laughter and love.

But the fun doesn't stop there! Our weekend was a whirlwind of culinary delights and entertainment. Imagine a hilarious scene from a show involving a ditzy character and an amusing undressing mishap that had us in stitches. We also indulged in a mouthwatering dim sum brunch at Din Tai Fung, famous for its exquisite soup dumplings. Even a small letdown at the mall couldn't dampen our spirits as we capped off the day with a heartwarming family gathering to watch the "House of Dragons" season finale while enjoying homemade mole. Join us as we reflect on the joy of these moments and prepare to get back into our usual groove of content creation.

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to another episode of the Broke Boys. I'm Ryan, I'm Kat and this is another spectacular episode and we'd love to. I can't speak. I would like to personally thank each and every single one of you guys for listening and to being a part of this journey, and I love each and every single one of you guys. So, before we go ahead and continue on with this next topic, let's go ahead and let's roll the intro we them broke boys from the hood.

Speaker 2:

We on them. Issues understood won't catch us lacking. We that good. We always winning, like we should. We flying high, we high. We're a butterfly up to the sky. No way you're catching us. Goodbye, we make it out alive. I'll never leave my dogs behind. We stick together like we signed. We're shooting stars, one of a kind. We're undefeated. Just resign. Money more lower than a bitch nowadays. Don't talk the talk.

Speaker 1:

How do you feel about going out of town?

Speaker 3:

I like going out of town.

Speaker 1:

You like going out of town?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so actually before we went. So the last episode you heard about our Disney trip that was on a Friday or Saturday. The following Tuesday I went on another trip to Santa Cruz. I went with my mom and my siblings. It was the first trip we've taken alone in a while you were working. Yeah, um, so it was just us my siblings and mom and it was just like refreshing and it was fun and it was cool to spend time with them. Um, my brother now is four, 13 Chacho. How old's Chacho 13? I?

Speaker 3:

don't know Chacho's 13 now, and it's so crazy to think about the last time we took a trip like that. He was like nine maybe, maybe younger than that, before everything happened. Yeah, so it was just fun. It was fun, so we did. So I did Disneyland on Friday, saturday, and then that following Tuesday, we did Santa Cruz, and then that following Friday, we drove to LA again. We drove to LA to visit my aunts. I have two aunts that live in LA who we see pretty often. We do a good job, or they do a good job, of coming into town and we try to go up there, um. But yeah, we wanted to take a trip, um, where we just hang out with my aunts, because every time we go to la we just use their apartment to like go out of town to like go other places.

Speaker 3:

Um. So this trip we wanted to go and spend time with them uh, that was the goal.

Speaker 1:

That was the goal because, like I was okay, I was like, yeah, I feel like, if we just go and just to, just to see, the vibe is just to relax yeah the point isn't to be on the go and, you know, be bouncing back and forth. The goal is just to hey, let's just go see them, let's go relax, let's kick back, let's, we don't have to do anything spectacular or crazy yeah.

Speaker 3:

So, um, I texted my, my aunts, and I was like, hey, are you busy this weekend? Do you have any plans? They said no. I said perfect, we're going to go up. And they were like, okay, cool. So then we drove up on Friday and we left at a decent time. We got there around dinnertime, which was cool. We went to go. The first place we always go is to get ice cream at this spot that's by their apartments, by handle. It's called handles, yes it's homemade ice cream.

Speaker 3:

Um that's my nipples twisted oh, it's homemade ice cream, um, and I think it's a small business is this small business.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I think so cool, um, but yeah, and it's not, it's it's fair priced and all that. So it's very cool and it's open from like noon to like 11 pm or something like that. Um, so it was cool. It's like an old school ice cream stand, so you just stand in line right in front and they get it for you. Yeah, um, so we did that. And then the next day my aunt, um, my aunt paula, was like okay, what are we gonna do? Like, what's the plan? Like, because we woke up just lazy. Like we woke up and like it was 10 or 11 and we still hadn't like taken showers, we hadn't done anything, we were just watching the Olympics.

Speaker 1:

And then I didn't sleep that Friday after I got off work. It was more like we're on the go. Come on, let's go.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and then it was super hot in the apartment, yeah, um, so, yeah, anyways. So that saturday morning my aunt was like, okay, what do you want to do? Where do you want to go? Like, let's, let's get the day going if we're doing something. And then we were like naming all the things that we could do and then we were like, honestly, let's just chill here. So that's what we did. We watched the olympics, we got ready later. We ended up leaving around three, because the reason that we went up there is when we were younger, my aunt took us one time to see shakespeare in the park and it's this, um independent company, um, that does shakespeare park, that does shakespeare plays in the park, um, and they're in griffith park, right there where the la zoo is yeah um, and you can just go outside a blanket and all they take is donations.

Speaker 3:

So you can just donate. And then you go and it's like actors that do it and they put it together and their lights and there's like it's like a production, like it's a whole thing, but it's in the park and it's free. Um, so you donate. So my aunt donated, um, and then we always used to go there's an italian deli that's by their house or that's by their apartment. Um, so you go. You we always get a sandwich, and then we go get drinks and like snacks, and then we just have a picnic and we watch the play. This play was as you like. It was how, what it was called, right yes it was so good I loved it

Speaker 1:

you had never been huh I've never, I've never experienced like a play like that, and let alone like the just the vibe of it being outside, being at the park, like it was all just a good, good vibe and and I I really loved it. I really enjoyed it. I would do it again yeah.

Speaker 3:

So, um, my aunt mary was like, oh my god, shakespeare in the park. I called her one day. We're on the phone. She's like, oh, shakespeare in the park is back like until september, if you want to come. And I was like, yes, I want to go before school starts and she was like, yeah, whenever, just let me know that was. The main goal of the trip was to go see Shakespeare in the park. My Aunt Mary is a big Shakespeare fan and I mean I like anything literature. So it was fun. My Aunt Paul, we all went. They have like the little setup because they live in LA so they do a lot of these concerts in the parks. They have like memberships to certain places where you can go and just sit out. So they places where you can go and just sit out. So they had like a whole little table. They had like the perfect side chairs. They had nice like blankets, like they had the whole setup, um, so it was fairly easy to get to um and the play was really good.

Speaker 3:

The play was so good, the lighting was so good, the characters were so good.

Speaker 3:

I love that all the characters were such in like, such in character, that they were walking around, interacting with everybody yeah, so before the play, when you're like eating what we ate because we were hungry, but before the play, if you go. So the play starts at seven but you can go as early as six and they have like this interactive hour where the characters are out, when they're walking around and they're like getting to know you, you're getting to know them. There's like a little like acting exercise thing they do in the back. If you want to participate in that, um, but if you don't, like we were just sitting down and as people were coming, the actors were walking through and they were like oh, my name's charles, like my, like they're just in telling us their character story and they're like oh, my dad passed away.

Speaker 3:

I have this brother, I'm in charge of the estate. All he has to do is sell apples and then you see, like this, this character, this man in character, and he's walking around like apples for sale, like yelling through the audience. Um, so it's very interactive, like that. It was very fun.

Speaker 1:

Um, yeah, I just thought it was really good yeah, no, I, I liked, I liked the comedy that they had of it.

Speaker 3:

This one was very funny and they.

Speaker 1:

There was just a lot of bits and pieces that they were just they were just executed well. Yeah, and it was like I don't know they had and pieces that they were just executed well.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and it was like I don't know, they had this character and they were being ditzy. She was the ditzy character and then she got married and they were having this scene where they were trying to be seductive and get all cute. So the guy took off his shirt and took off his whole suit and he was walking around in a white button-down in his boxers and then the joke was that he was like okay, now you undress. And she kept like pulling down layers of clothes.

Speaker 1:

but because back in the day there's like 30 000 layers.

Speaker 3:

She never got down to like her underwear. It was like the two linings before her skirt or something like that so it was just funny, like the way that they said it, their accents that they had like yeah it was very cool. So that was what we did saturday night um, I think it was. I think we ended up leaving at like 10, 10, 30 yeah um, after that we went home, we showered and then Sunday.

Speaker 1:

Sunday we had House of Dragons, so every Sunday?

Speaker 3:

Oh, no, no, no. Before that in LA, what did you request?

Speaker 1:

Oh, and then I requested to get densum on Sunday, and if you guys don't know what densum is, it's dumplings. Yeah, so it's like the dumpling it's wonton, it's um yeah, cat showed me one time that she was obsessed with it and I was like, okay, like I don't see what the hype is until I actually had it and it was really good and I've been a fan ever since yeah.

Speaker 3:

so dims din tai din tai fung is um a. It's mostly in the. I know there's one in there, might be one in the Bay I might be lying and they're in LA, but I had only been there one other time and it's so good. They're known for the soup dumplings. They're known for like the yeah, for that kind of cuisine. They have soup dumplings. They have pork buns, pork baos. They have like spice, like wontons. They have the cucumber salad, they have the seaweed salad, like they have all those the garlic, green beans, fried rice noodles.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it was just it's always so good, um, so we were very excited about that, so we did that sunday morning, because you have to get a reservation or you have to wait for like hours, yeah, so the earliest reservation we can get was 10 15 because we were planning to drive home earlier. Um, so when we got there at 10 15 and then I don't know if you guys know about sunny angels- and if you don't, do not research it for your sake sunny angels.

Speaker 3:

They're just cute little figurines and I have, like I really really want one, but on amazon they're like 30 and I'm not willing to pay that. So I was hoping that in la and that mall, specifically because there are a lot of um asian people of asian descent at the mall.

Speaker 1:

So I'm gonna call out your cousin. Your cousin alexis is your bad influence on you. Bro, me and john both agree stop it. Stop it, we know what we like.

Speaker 3:

Stop being a hater um, no, there are a lot of people of asian descent that live in the city that my aunts live in, um, so there are a lot of people of Asian descent that live in the city that my aunts live in. Um, so there are a lot of Asian stores in the mall Asian inspired stores so I figured that they would have them, but everyone was sold out.

Speaker 3:

And they had signs saying that they were sold out, which made me so sad, because that means that eventually they had some and eventually they will get some. But I was only there one day, so I didn't get one plot twist. Um, but we ended up leaving. We did that. We were running around the mall, we went home packed.

Speaker 1:

We came home because House of Dragons yeah, yeah, because Kat and my sisters they started doing every weekend, every Sunday, house of Dragons would be premiering and obviously this past Sunday was the season finale, yeah, of season three, right Of season two, of season two. The season finale yeah. Of season three right.

Speaker 3:

Of season two.

Speaker 1:

Of season two. My bad, yeah. And of course everybody was going to come over, and my sister and my mom, they were going to make mole which ended up being my mom making it her porsche, but we love just being around with family and just having that opportunity to just embrace one another and enjoy ourselves.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so House of Dragons every Sunday at 6. This was the season finale, which I was really disappointed about. But yeah, they made mole. We always do it at I try to be home by 5, but it doesn't start until six and everyone usually gets here between five and six so we can start it. But we started a little late because my mother-in-law made mole and then, yeah, it was just fun. I love, we love, house of Dragons. They got me into the Game of Thrones world. His older sister, cynthia, got me into the Game of Thrones world. His older sister Cynthia got me into the Game of Thrones world and then his other sister was in it. So I saw that whole series. I saw House of Dragons series one. This was season two. Now I have to wait a year for season three, which is unfortunate.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, it was fun yeah.

Speaker 3:

Which leads us to today and back to a normal schedule.

Speaker 1:

And back to hell we are.

Speaker 3:

Back to normal scheduling. We have no more out-of-town trips planned.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, for right now we're just going to take it easy.

Speaker 3:

We're going to start saving again.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 1:
